summit, New Jersey; 1983
when I ought to have been graduating from college
instead I was at home in Summit in a forced leave of absence.
I was seeing a lousy psychotherapist.
she gave me a novel about a psychoanalysis of a young woman by a female psychoanalyst.
what a mixup.
I read another book, nonfiction, by a young doctor’s travels including his visit to a state hospital and the callous treatment he saw there.
I wound up trying to cut my wrists and going for a month’s stay on a psych ward.
Then, back to Harvard to finish up my degree.
I was in a state of extreme exhaustion.
the At&T anti-trust break-up was in process. My family was using it to lose me. But I cracked up and the doctors in Cambridge forced them to take responsibility for me and to bring me to the new situation here in PA where my father had been relocated. It was a disaster. I opted to stay in the Boston area but that somehow fell through the cracks. I don’t know who did that or how. Next thing I knew I was at the state hospital. This is all so painful and uncomfortable to look at.
in 1990 I met Alex. He was in Boston at the same time that I was. He went from there to the Caribbean and met with a Hurricane. Took a job offer in Reading and he must have known of my story as he worked downtown and ai used to hang out with my MH world friends there.
next thing after that we were married abd living in California. Then…
…this story just doesn’t bear telling.
Jesus is the way and the truth and the life
that’s all I know
