she claims that I deliberately placed her at Smith College to make her the brunt of the old Harvard joke, “Smith to bed, Wellesley to wed.”
she was so paranoid!
she came back from her first year wearing a felt hat just like the ones I, Sue and Keene wore to the boys school at Kent School Freshman spring semester and I called her a dyke. I dont know what brought me to use that expression but it was meant affectionately. I did not know about the lesbian presence at Smith College at that time.
I did suggest Smith College to her, i thought my parents were going to secrete her away at some small local PA private college and knew she could do better.
I had just gotten out of the state hospital, and my parents should have known better than to let her listen to me. They had told me that they had to put me at Wernersville because they had to save their money for her college tuition.
I had so much affection for this person and always assumed it was returned.
but learned over recent decades that this was not the case. She expected me to continue loving on her when it was clear that it was a one way street. Other family members also tried to force me in such a regard.
