“Accentuate the positive”–that was my New Year’s resolution this year.
through that I stumbled upon the most fantastic realization, also a well known saying: “Life is what you make of it.”
I was at a low ebb and that came through for me. I saw that I could change the moment through how I looked at it, and it saved me. Sort of like the half full or half empty glass of water, but more complex.
I used to disdain such common place wisdom. I was an idiot!
Like the Serenity Prayer. I know that I don’t need to quote that. Now I am learning my limitations and understand the application of that old saw.
I have a dog here who was rescued from South Philly. And her best friend who has a bad leg. They are both half hound, half pit bull. I came between them today because I had to take the rescue dog out a second time because she wouldn’t poop and then didn’t the second time either. But, she felt that she had been treated preferentially and so did the other dog and I didn’t know what to do. At one time I would have perseverated over that to a fault but then I saw that she did need such preferential treatment for her trust issues and the damage. She is now so calm, later in the evening. It will probably take a lifetime for her to recover fully. She is not my dog. But I do so care about her. Lifting her up to St. Francis, patron saint of animals.
