In my 30’s, when I was living with Baby Ian in Germantown, MD,I wrote a short paper, after a serious sick stay on a psych ward, and a skirmish there with a Nigerian psych tech, I wrote a short paper called “Black People Should Be Treated Like Royalty.”
I dont have a copy. I gave one to my Black friend, Forrest, and I sent another to Anita, a professor of Black American literature although not Black herself; and married to Orlando Patterson, the famous Professor of Sociology at Harvard and a Jamaican public intellectual in race matters.Anita turned out to not be a very good friend likewise our co roommate from college at Harvard, Sally Gibbons, recently known to be married to the Dean of the business school at U Penn and still hostile to me after all these years. After the psych stay and paper I styled myself profeasant of Black race matters but I learned over time the severity of the situation and how the best intentions of an “English little girl” might not be ‘the ticket’ in entirety for the Black American soul as I naively thought at that time. I and my family got into serious trouble over this down these many years that has led to this place this very day where I can now see the trouble I had with Obama and why: obviously he would have been personally connected with Professor Patterson and acquainted with Anita!! What a catastrophe for me! I just wasn’t getting it!My father had me blocked over my letter on abortion in 2002 (?) which I also don’t have a copy of … (“God writes…”—“What is Abortion?”) and I didn’t really know what was going on.Sally and Anita can mark themselves unfriended in case they ever thought they were friends.
