I just read about “target abuse”. The Cinderella syndrome”— in which one child in a family is “singled out for abuse.” My father called it an “object lesson” but was never able to explain what he meant. In other words it was ME.

In other words he was a sanctimonious asshole about it.

Obviously he was deeply hurt by his own mother’s abuse.

but they say, never try to understand an abuser, but it does help me to not take it so personally to understand that such abuse is common.
